Mac OS 10 Jaguar (version x.ii) is the third major release of macOS, Apple tree's desktop and server operating organisation. It superseded Mac Bone Ten 10.one and preceded Mac Os X Panther. The operating system was released on August 23, 2002 either for single-calculator installations, and in a "family pack," which allowed five installations on dissever computers in one household. New and changed features [ edit ]
Jaguar introduced many new features to Mac Bone 10, which are yet supported to this twenty-four hours, including MPEG-four support in QuickTime, [8] Address Book, and Inkwell for handwriting recognition. Jaguar saw the debut of Quartz Extreme, a technology used to composite graphics straight on the video card, without the utilise of software to composite windows. The technology allotted the task of drawing the 3D surface of windows to the video card, rather than to the CPU, to increment interface responsiveness and performance.
Universal Admission was added to let the Macintosh to be usable by disabled calculator users.
The user interface of Jaguar was also amended to add search features to the Finder using the updated Sherlock 3.
Internally, Jaguar also added the Common Unix Printing Organisation (also known as CUPS), a modular printing system for Unix-similar operating systems, and improved back up for Microsoft Windows networks using the open up-source Samba as a server for the SMB remote file access protocol and a FreeBSD-derived virtual file system module every bit a client for SMB.

Mac Bone 10 ten.2.vii (codenames Blackrider, Smeagol) was only available to the new Ability Mac G5s and aluminum PowerBook G4s released before Mac OS 10 Panther. Officially, information technology was never released to the general public.
Mac Bone X ten.2.8 is the concluding version of Mac Bone X officially supported on the "Beige G3" desktop, minitower, and all-in-1 systems also as the PowerBook G3 Serial (1998) as well known as Wallstreet/PDQ; though subsequently releases tin exist run on such Macs with the help of unofficial, unlicensed, and unsupported third-party tools such as XPostFacto.
