Safety Belts: They Are for Anybody

This part of the manual tells you how to utilize safe belts properly. Information technology also tells yous some things you should not do with safe belts.

20

In nigh states and in all Canadian provinces, the police says to wear prophylactic belts. Here is why:

They work.

Y'all never know if you will be in a crash. If you lot do have a crash, you do not know if information technology will exist a

bad 1.

A few crashes are mild, and some crashes tin can be then serious that even buckled up, a person

would not survive. But most crashes are in betwixt. In many of them, people who buckle up can survive and sometimes walk away. Without belts they could take been badly injure or killed.

After more twoscore years of rubber belts in vehicles, the facts are articulate. In most crashes buckling up does matter... a lot!

Why Condom Belts Work

When y'all ride in or on anything, you lot go as fast equally it goes.

Have the simplest vehicle. Suppose it is just a seat on wheels.

21

Put someone on it.

Get it up to speed. Then stop the vehicle.

The rider does not terminate.

22

The person keeps going until stopped by something. In a real vehicle, it could be the windshield...

or the instrument panel...

23

Volition I exist trapped in the vehicle after an accident if I am wearing a safety belt?

You could be — whether you are wearing a safety belt or non. Simply y'all can unbuckle a rubber belt, even if you are upside downwardly. And your chance of being conscious during and afterwards an accident, so yous can unbuckle

and become out, is much greater if you are belted.

If my vehicle has airbags, why should I have to wearable safe belts?

or the safety belts!

With condom belts, you dull down equally the vehicle does. You lot get more time to stop. Y'all end over more distance, and your strongest bones have the forces. That is why safety belts

brand such good sense.

Questions and Answers Near

Safety Belts

Q:

A:

Q:

A: Airbags are supplemental systems simply; and so they work with rubber belts — not instead of them. Every airbag system ever offered

for sale has required the apply of condom belts. Even if you lot are in a vehicle that has airbags, you lot yet take to buckle upward to get the most protection. That is truthful non merely in frontal collisions, but especially in side and other collisions.

24

Q: If I am a good commuter, and I never drive far from domicile, why should I wear safety belts?

A: You may be an first-class driver, but if you are in an accident — fifty-fifty one that is not your fault — you and your passengers can be injure. Existence a good commuter does not protect you lot from things beyond your control, such equally bad drivers.

half dozen. To make the lap part tight, pull up on the shoulder chugalug.

It may exist necessary to pull stitching on the safety chugalug through the latch plate to fully tighten the lap belt on smaller occupants.

26

The lap part of the belt should be worn low and snug on the hips, just touching the thighs. In

a crash, this applies strength to the potent pelvic bones. And yous would be less likely to slide nether the lap belt. If yous slid nether it, the belt would employ force at your abdomen. This could cause serious or even fatal injuries. The shoulder

belt should become over the shoulder and across the chest. These parts of the body are best able

to take belt restraining forces.

The rubber belt locks if there is a sudden finish or crash.

27

You tin exist seriously hurt if your shoulder belt is too loose. In a crash, you would move forward too much, which could increment injury. The shoulder belt should fit against your body.

28

Q: What is incorrect with this?

A: The lap belt is too loose. It will not give virtually as much protection this way.

{Caution:

You lot can be seriously hurt if your lap belt is as well loose. In a crash, you could slide under the lap belt and apply strength at your abdomen. This could cause serious or even fatal injuries. The lap belt should be worn low and snug on the hips, merely touching the thighs.

29

Q: What is wrong with this?

A: The belt is buckled in the wrong place.

{Caution:

Yous can exist seriously injured if your chugalug is buckled in the wrong identify like this. In a crash, the chugalug would go upwards over your abdomen. condom belts.

The best way to protect the fetus is to protect the mother. When a prophylactic belt is worn properly, it

The shoulder belt should go over the shoulder and beyond the chest. These parts of the body are best able to take belt restraining forces.

The safety belt locks if there is a sudden stop or a crash.

38

39

There is one guide for each outboard passenger position in the rear seat. Here is how to install a condolement guide to the safety chugalug:

ane. Pull the guide out from the pocket on the border of the seatback.

or near frontal crash if the threshold conditions for pretensioner activation are met.

Pretensioners work only once. If they activate in a crash, you will need to become new ones, and probably other new parts for your prophylactic chugalug system. See Replacing Restraint System Parts Afterwards a Crash on page 87.
