What would exist the all-time gear ratio for a motorcar but just for the strip. I was thinking 4.10s, just that seams balmy, what would you suggest?

Gear ratios all depend on where in the rpm'due south you brand the bulk of ability & what height tire you volition be using.

When I purchased my motorcar it was prepare with 4.56 gears & 27" tires and I crossed the traps at 6100-6500rpm. I have since switched to iv.10 gears & 26" tires and I now cross the traps at 6000-6100 which worked out perfect for where my motor made power.

Brek is correct When I did my elevate car I went with four.56 with nine x 28 One thousand/T slicks car started with a 304 w/big cam & automobile due west/4000 stall.

I also looked at it that down the road I will go bigger motor and run in the higher RPM range and did not desire to do some other gear change.

Right at present same rear and trany (TH400) and stall backside a 360 280H cam information technology runs thirteen.0s and 6000 rpm at the line. Could use less gear or more motor just for mismatch parts it goes pretty good.

I was looking at 4.10 when I first started my rear end build. What is the residue of your build like motor, trany, rear tires?

Beginning make up one's mind what ET and Speed you want to run in the 1/4 mile.

From that yous and then demand to know what the weight of yur vehichle will exist.

So from Weight and Speed or ET y'all can become required HP to do it.

Speed and ET are linked for "ideal" possible past Physics.

Then for the targeted weight and HP in that location is a Time and Speed.

From the "ideal" Speed work backwards through tire size and rear end gears

to get meridian engine rpm when crossing the end line at that "ideal" speed.

Choose the Gears that work for that Weight, HP, ET, Speed, Tire Size, Engine RPM.

Cool

I institute a few calculators that do all the math for yous, information technology worked out peachy

I wanted an eleven.00s motorcar

I put in that the iv-door rambler weight was 3200 lbs give or take a few

It told me that my car would run effectually 123 mph

and that it would take around 476 hp to achive that.

Does that sound right?

Aye that's pretty shut to what the Moroso Power Speed computer says.

11.00 goes with 120-121 mph and ~seven.five lbs/HP at the tires

3200 lbs / seven.five lbs/hp = 427 HP @ Tire & twenty% drivetrain loss = 534 HP @ Motor.

And then 121 mph = 10, 648 ft/min

28" slick = 7.33 ft circumference ( pure, no squish from auto weight )

x,648 ft/min / 7.33 ft/tire rev = 1453 RPM for 28" dia. Tire @ 121 mph

6500 rpm motor at stop line / 1453 rpm tire @ 121 mph = 4.47:ane Ring and Pinion.

as an instance

PHAT69AMX

What does the Moroso Power Speed reckoner say for 7000 to 7200 RPM in traps.

I accept 5:xiv's at present with a 264 low T-10

 29" slick

3400 pound car

seven,100 rpm / v.14 gear = 1,381 rpm @ tire

29" slick = 7.59 ft circumference ( pure, no squish from motorcar weight )

1,381 rpm @ tire x 7.59 ft circ. = 10,482 ft per minute

x,482 fpm = 119 mph for 29" slicks, 5.14 gears, and 7100 rpm @ motor

So information technology comes out nigh the same as the above example

around 11.00 sec @ 120 mph and the ~7.five lbs/HP at the tires

for 3400 lbs divide past 7.5 lbs/HP = 453 HP @ tires

then using xx% for drivetrain loss = 567 HP @ Motor

not that the caculator is gospel, but it'south fun to wait simply to look.

Cool
